Phoenix Zoo is located in the north of Tempe in Papago Park. The entrance of the zoo welcomes visitors with the mesmerizing landscapes surrounding them. Even though the zoo is located in Phoenix city, it feels like you are somewhere deep in the Arizona desert. The Phoenix zoo comprises four main trails: African trail, Arizona trail, Tropics Trail, and Children’s trail.

At the African trail, you can see the exotic animals of African Savannah are a big hit in the zoo. You can have fun seeing animals like giraffes, lions, elephants, zebra, rhinoceros, and other African animals. At the Arizona trail, you will see Arizona’s desert creatures like wolves, mountain lions, snakes, lizards, tortoises, etc.

The Phoenix zoo also features a tropic trail where Monkey village is the biggest highlight. You can walk directly into the monkey habitat where you can see these creatures play in the trees. At the harmony farm, you will find tractors to climb, simulated cows to milk, and goats to brush. You will also find three water playgrounds so take swimsuits or changing clothes along with you.

Spend a good amount of time at the Children’s trails if you are with your kids. At the red barn, kids can pet farmyard animals. The discovery farm offers a play area for kids aged 18 months to 5 years. On the other hand, the enchanted forest has bridge slides and a treehouse for the older kids.

Some add on experiences includes stingray bay, 4-D theater, Safari train, and endangered species carousel. If you plan to visit the Phoenix zoo during the winter, check out the ZooLights. At this annual event, you will be able to see the zoo in a whole new light. You should know that most of the animal habitats will not be lighted but winter-themed activities and performances will be held during ZooLights.
