The Breakers

The Breakers is a Gilded Age mansion in New Port City, Rhode Island, USA. Built between 1893 and 1895 by Cornelius Vanderbilt to serve as a summer residence. It is spread over an area of 125,339 square feet. This mansion welcomes guests with entrance that is marked by sculpted iron gates and awe inspiring 70 rooms. Designed in the Renaissance Revival style, this massive five-story mansion attracts millions of people every year.

Garden of the breakers

You will feel a sense of calm and solitude on the grounds around this mansion. Beautiful flowering shrubs of many varieties and many flowering plants like mountain laurel, dogwood, and rhododendrons make the garden attractive. You will be amazed to see the row-closed shade trees include arbor vitae, Chinese juniper, dwarf hemlock, and many more. Events of the Breakers

The Breakers host exciting new events throughout the year for visitors to enjoy. The mansion is decorated in Christmas attire and a tree is decorated with lights in every room. Soft Christmas-themed music is played throughout the tour. Dressed in the style of the Dickens era, including top hats, canes, and scarves. Also look forward to hosting birthday parties, anniversaries, dance recitals, meetings, weddings, and special festivals and events at this exquisite haveli.

Great Hall of the Breaker

This sixth-door Great Haveli, full of limestone groups depicting the progress of art, humanity, and science, has an entrance gate 30 feet high and an iron gate. Here you can see science in industry, the representation of Galileo, literature and Dante, art and commerce, and architecture & sculpture.

  2. This New Port mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994.

Don’t miss the Christmas festival here where the entire haveli is decorated. The music and dance are also done beautifully. The staff is very helpful and decent.

Admission to the mansion is $10 for children ages 6 to 12 and $29 for adults, and free for children under 6. Here you can enter from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
