Shawnee National Forest

Shawnee National Forest spanning over 289,000 acres, established in 1993, lies between the Mississippi and Ohio rivers in Bloomfield, Illinois. Its surrounds woodlands, hills, and lakes. Wildlife includes bald eagles that are managed by United States Forest Services. The Garden of the Gods wilderness features the times of ancient sandstone cliffs and formations. Hiking Trails at Garden of Gods

There are various hiking trails in Garden of Gods namely, Perkins Central Garden Trail which is 1.5 miles path with a 30-foot rise. Another one is Ridge Trail which is a 1/2-mile loop with a 100-foot rise next one is named Siamese Twins Trail is 1 mile, with less than a 150-foot rise. Hiking Trails range here for all age groups for beginners to experts.

Burden Falls

Burden Falls is extended over an area of 3,775-acre units of the Shawnee National Forest. It is located in the northwestern part of the County, Southwestern Saline, Bloomfield, Illinois. The Burden Falls is characterized by a second-growth hardwood forest, enhanced by a small, seasonal waterfall on Burden Falls Creek.

Old Stoneface Trail

Old Stoneface is a 1.6-mile rugged trail in Saline County, Illinois. Old Stoneface trail features rock formations and scenic overlooks. The trail is known for its rock formation called Old Stoneface resembling the face of an old woman along with the upper portion of the trail. Old Stoneface is located within the Research Natural Area of Shawnee National Forest.
